Washed by Christ

Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2Cor 5:17

Weswa, one of the first children we met in the village, instantly captured our hearts. With a sparkle in his eye and a smile that lights up the room, he embodies the spirit of boyhood. Alongside his twin brother, Kato, Weswa is a bundle of energy, climbing trees and racing down the village roads.

However, beneath that charming exterior lay a troubling path. Weswa found himself in fights and trouble, often distracted on the way home from school. As I prepared to leave the village from one of my visits, I knelt down to meet his stubborn gaze. “Weswa,” I said earnestly and prayerfully, “we need you to rise up as a mightyman of God,”

God heard our prayers and over time we witnessed a remarkable transformation. Weswa had become a regular at church, proudly wearing his Sunbeams uniform to school, and running to greet us with open arms.

In December 2024, during Sunbeams’ first Speak Day and Graduation Celebration, I was astounded to see Weswa practice with his classmates—his confidence and leadership shone brightly. I approached his teacher to ask, “What has happened to Weswa?” Her face lit up as she shared how he had transformed from one of the lowest-performing students in his class to an impressive third in his class! Not only were his grades on the rise, but his heart for serving others was also blossoming.

Then came February, when we held our first baptism at Sunbeams Christian School. Weswa excitedly embraced this significant step in his faith, a testament to his faith in Christ.

What we’re building here is more than just a community; we’re sharing the love and truth of Christ, planting seeds of hope and salvation in young hearts like Weswa’s. Seeing lives changed is the ultimate reward, and Weswa’s journey is just one shining example of the impact we’re making together.

The NEW has come!
